Starting SSPI Chapters

How to Start an SSPI Chapter

SSPI Chapters begin with professionals who want to strengthen their local space and satellite community. You do not need every answer before you begin. Start by bringing people together, learning what your region needs, and talking with SSPI about the right path forward.

What Is an SSPI Chapter?

An SSPI Chapter is a local gathering point for space and satellite professionals in a region. Chapters create opportunities for networking, professional development, industry discussion, leadership growth, and connection to SSPI’s global professional community.

What Do You Need to Get Started?

1. A Small Group of Interested Leaders

Start with a few people willing to help convene others. This does not need to be a formal board at the beginning. It can be a working group of professionals who believe the region would benefit from stronger connection.

2. An Active or Emerging Space Community

Chapters are grounded in regions where people are working in or around space, satellite, communications, government, academia, finance, entrepreneurship, research, or related fields.

3. A Willingness to Convene

A developing Chapter begins by creating opportunities for people to meet, talk, learn, and build relationships. This may start with a networking gathering, a roundtable, a speaker session, a facility visit, or another simple activity.

How the Process Works

Step 1: Talk with SSPI about your region and your interest in forming a Chapter.

Step 2: Identify a small group of local professionals willing to help.

Step 3: Begin engaging the community through conversations, informal gatherings, or an initial event.

Step 4: Share what you are learning with SSPI.

Step 5: Work with SSPI to determine the right next steps toward formal Chapter recognition.

When Does a Group Become Official?

Use of the SSPI Chapter name and branding begins only when SSPI has formally recognized the group. Recognition is determined in conversation with SSPI based on leadership, regional activity, community interest, and the group’s ability to sustain engagement over time.
