Stephen Hanna (Director)

WorldView Space Product Manager

Stephen Hanna started his space journey as a curious kid visiting his favorite DC museum, The Air & Space Museum and attending NASA's Florida Space Camp during the summers. Always fascinated about all things Astronomy & Sci-fi, Stephen attended a shuttle launch at Cape Canaveral with his family and fell in love with the awesome final frontier of Space. After a short stint in the hospitality industry into his early 20's, Stephen facilitated a career switch into the Space industry by working at one of the original commercial satellite imagery companies, GeoEye, as 3D GIS specialist. After DigitalGlobe purchased GeoEye in 2014, Stephen moved into the DG & SAAB Joint Venture company Vricon to continue building 3D models out of highly accurate 2d imagery stacks. Stephen moved into the sales office as a Sales Operations Manager and when DG (now called Maxar) bought SAAB out of the joint venture Stephen found his way home to the original GeoEye office in Herndon VA. When Stephen first saw that commercial imagery licenses had been updated to allow for satellite to satellite imagery now dubbed NEI (Non-Earth Imagery) he jumped into the newly created SSA/SDA Product Manager position to run it. With a lifetime of looking upwards and roughly 2 decades working in the Space & Defense industry Stephen has spoken at various events, been interviewed in multiple publications, sat on panels, and grown into a leading voice in the small but mighty Space Debris re-mediation and OSAM/ISAM communities. Stephen has prior board experience with a 2 year term on the board of the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) as one of 2 Young Professional Board members and as a current board member in SSPI’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter. Stephen was also one of the inaugural fellows of the For All Moonkind space law collective and was awarded one of the coveted Golden Ticket's to the 2019 GEOINT Symposium in San Antonio, Texas. For 2 years Stephen was 1 of 2 co-chairs of the USGIF's Young Professional Group (YPG), active in event planning, membership, and running meetings. As a member of SSPI, I have volunteered for the golf event each year, participated in the mentorship program as both a mentee and mentor, and sat on the judges panel at the latest Mid-Atlantic Student Prize Competition.
