New Better Satellite World Video from SSPI Explores How Satellite Communications Keep Militaries One Step Ahead
10 Jun 2025
(June 11, 2025 – New York City) – Space & Satellite Professionals International (SSPI) has released its newest video in the Better Satellite World campaign: The Fifth Dimension. The video explores how satellite communications allow military forces on land, sea, and air to operate in sync and stay one step ahead of their opponents. The Fifth Dimension was made possible with the generosity and creative assistance of Kymeta.
“We thank Kymeta for championing the Better Satellite World and for showing how satellite-enabled coordination across domains enhances operational effectiveness and contributes to the rapid resolution of military engagements,” said executive director Tamara Bond-Williams.
Inside the Story Conflicts are everywhere these days – from fights over land or water and battles for gold or diamonds to invasions, rebellions, and civil wars. What keeps these smaller conflicts from exploding into global ones for the world’s leading militaries? It’s the ability to move or, as a general once put it, “getting their firstest with the mostest.”
As threats grow, militaries move people, vessels, aircraft vehicles, armaments, and supplies at speed. In the contested areas, they do it in what the military calls the 5th Dimension. But it’s not something in a superhero movie. It’s an operation where forces on land, sea, and air move in sync guided by space and ground communication networks. The 5th Dimension provides agility, flexibility, and battlefield awareness that opponents struggle to second guess.
But what keeps these moving elements in sync? It’s the data crossing those space and ground communication networks, data that depends on companies like Kymeta to reach the battlefield.
About SSPI Founded in 1983, Space & Satellite Professionals International (www.sspi.org) is on a mission to make the space and satellite industry one of the world’s best at attracting and engaging the talent that powers innovation. The space and satellite business has never seen a time of greater experimentation and disruption than we see today. Investment is the fuel for transformation, but people are the engine. SSPI helps the industry attract, develop and retain the talented people it needs to keep the engine turning. People who connect through high-profile events and gain recognition from prestigious awards. People who rely on SSPI for a broader understanding of the industry as much as for individual networking and career mentoring. From young people seeking a career path to industry veterans with wisdom to share, SSPI connects them all.
Talent, investment and opportunity flow to industries that make a difference. SSPI is the only organization that also promotes the enormous value of space and satellite through dramatic stories of our technologies and companies making a better world. Those stories overturn misconceptions about the industry that hold it back. They inspire our people and attract new ones to the industry. They help justify investment and give new customers a reason to care about our services and products. Through the stories we tell and the people we serve, SSPI inspires the growth of the $1 trillion space economy of the future.
