In September 2024, SSPI’s popular New York Space Business Roundtable travelled to Cornell University and beautiful Ithaca, New York to discuss how New York State has moved forward, the pace of its development and what it needs to really get this going faster. The day-long live symposium titled “Why NOT New York?” featured two panels of experts exploring space industry assets in the Empire State and best practices for developing a strong local space economy. You can watch both of those panels on-demand here!
New York State has without fanfare (or being entirely aware) funded, conceptualized and developed a growing commercial Space industry. What differentiates the Empire State from other “Space economy” nations and states is the lack of recognition it receives, as well as coordinated policies to continue to build the industry into a genuine powerhouse for economic growth, business attraction and social development. The talent and ingredients are there as well as companies from Buffalo to Brooklyn working the sector.
