William R. Schmidt, 62, vice president of government services at Xtar LLC, died April 28 of a heart attack.
Schmidt joined Rockville, Md.-based X-band satellite capacity provider Xtar in 2007. Prior to that, he worked in a variety of capacities within the aerospace and defense industries, including stints with Artel Inc., Honeywell and several consultancies, according to his corporate biography. He earned a bachelor’s degree in market management and operations research from the University of Maryland in College Park.
Denis Curtin, Xtar’s chief operating officer, in an April 28 e-mail to friends and colleagues called Schmidt an essential member of the company’s senior management team. "He was a personal friend as well as a trusted colleague,” Curtin said. "He will be sorely missed by us all.” He is survived by his wife, Candyce, numerous siblings and nieces and nephews.
